Isa Bongers
18th of June 2001, the Netherlands
Currently living and working in Ghent, Belgium
Isa Bongers uses her ever-growing archive and observations as medium and
research tool for her interdisciplinary artistic practice. She implements these
observations in writing, videos, installations, performances and public
interventions. In her practice, she researches and reflects on visual culture
and the way images appear to us in public space. The work aims to understand
how people communicate with each other visually and to question the life of
images after their installment in streets. Isa feels compelled to analyse these
images through a critical and sensitive lens, exploring the relationships
between advertisements and handwritten posters, or humans and their
representations. She aims to understand and challenge the images that persuade
us to crave unattainable realities. Her work invites everyone to dedicate time
to images often overlooked, finding poetry and patterns within them. It
encourages a critical analysis of the everyday, prompting us to recognise and
question the information our surroundings constantly provide.
