I Was At The Frame Shop

In the group exhibition ‘I Was At The Frame Shop’ my research on empty advertising frames in public space was presented. The purpose of these frames is to be a carrier for information, but when they carry emptiness, they create a sudden space of absence. The empty frame, a seemingly uninteresting and unintended mistake, confronts us with the great amounts of information that we are constantly bombarded with. The frames become an absurd gesture, almost an act of resistance against the way our attention is constantly grabbed and the way we are conditioned to look at our surroundings

The in-between state creates a space that is not often granted to us anymore, room for the undefined, something we can fill with our own thoughts and ideas. This confrontation with ‘nothing’ can create a reflective moment to reveal the quiet gestures, hiding in plain sight. Instances where capitalist visual tendencies sometimes fail, unintentionally leaving space for critical thought and reflection, for a sudden pause, for waiting.

‘I Was At The Frame Shop’ was on view from March 15th until March 30th 2025 at Omstand in Arnhem, NL as part of the Apprentice / Master Program organized by Kunspodium T.
